Stacking Aquamarine & Topaz Rings

Aren't these rings beautiful?I love that they could be really simple and beautiful alone, but stacked, they create much more of a visual statement. So pretty! Although there have been other stacking rings I have oogled I have yet to purchase. One day!

Sunday Home Tour: California Ladies

Well, I have not been super good about posting regularly this month, have I? Well, everyone has to fall off the bandwagon sometime, and what with my apartment move last month, going out of town, cottaging, having drinks on patios, and you know, working, it's just been a busy whirl wind! But now that it's heading towards fall (it's not here yet!) I'm going to try and get back in the inspiration groove! I'm also going to try and include more "original content", but since I am not a great photographer, we will see how that goes. Anyway, for those still reading, thanks for sticking with! Hopefully more bright smiles will come your way!

Oh yeah, and check out this sweet apartment featured on Apartment Therapy! I love seeing homes of roomies, because that's sort of how I still live. I'm not in the grown up housing situation yet. Also, I like to see how two people's different styles are expressed in one space. Lovely.

See more photos of the house in Santa Barbara, California here.

All You Need Is Love (And Chocolate)

Happy Friday! I'm headed out to cottage country again with a bestie and her lovely boy. I'm looking forward to eating cheese, reading, sleeping, eating chocolate and drinking wine. And not being alone. The boy is off at a wedding in Vancouver, and nights have been a little sadder for the past few days, you know? I think the weekend will be good, and don't worry, I have a supply of chocolate for when any sadness hits. Chocolate does help.

Goodbye

 Grandma and Nana

This weekend was not as expected. While I wrote to you last week with the expectation of celebration at a wedding of friends, instead I unexpectedly, and unpleasantly experienced the loss of a very loved one.  Yes, the weekend was not the revelry that I had hoped for and anticipated. I was in the Finger Lake region of upstate New York, on my way to Vermont when I got that call that my loving Grandma had slipped into a coma. While I was assured that I did not need to return home, I didn't consider it an option. I had to try and make it home to say goodbye. So after 8 hours in a car, I turned around, caught a red eye bus from Syracuse driving through the night, and bringing me back home. I did indeed make it to the hospital in time to say my goodbyes, and although my grandma was mostly unresponsive, I wanted and needed that chance to tell her how much I loved her, and how much she had meant to me over the years. She passed away Sunday morning.

This morning I heard of new of another cancer related death. Jack Layton, leader of the NDP, Canada's left wing political party, and Canada's current official opposition succumbed to his second battle with cancer. It was a quick blow, it had been merely weeks ago that he had announced his break from politics to try and recover from a bout of cancer. But the writing was on the wall as even at that time he looked gaunt and unwell.

So with a heart of sadness I leave you with some inspiration. For each sadness helps us to appreciate what we do have more, and reminds us to live every moment, and to always, always say I love you. I leave you with some beautiful words from Jack Layton's farewell letter.

"To young Canadians: All my life I have worked to make things better... As my time in political life draws to a close I want to share with you my belief in your power to change this country and this world. There are great challenges before you, from the overwhelming nature of climate change to the unfairness of an economy that excludes so many from our collective wealth, and the changes necessary to build a more inclusive and generous Canada. I believe in you. Your energy, your vision, your passion for justice are exactly what this country needs today. You need to be at the heart of our economy, our political life, and our plans for the present and the future.

And finally, to all Canadians: Canada is a great country, one of the hopes of the world. We can be a better one – a country of greater equality, justice, and opportunity. We can build a prosperous economy and a society that shares its benefits more fairly. We can look after our seniors. We can offer better futures for our children. We can do our part to save the world’s environment. We can restore our good name in the world... consider that we can be a better, fairer, more equal country by working together. Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."

Things I'm Thankful For

Holy crap batman, have I been busy! I haven't spent a weekend at home in months, and this one will be no different. Why do you ask, am I writing about the weekend when it's only Wednesday? Well, because I'm headed to Vermont for a great big hippie wedding camping love fest tomorrow, so essentially my weekend starts... now! I'm sorry for being absent this week, but I have had too much to do! Tonight I have some VERY lovely ladies coming over for raspberry margaritas and snacks, and then I have to pack for the wedding! But despite the rush, I'm very thankful. For my various friends who keep me out almost every night, for my job which keeps me busy, and pays my bills, and is fun, and for my family and my new home (which is still a mess). I do find that when I get stressed it help me to remind myself of how very lucky I am. Now, back to work!! I'm hoping to come home from Wedstock full of memories, photos, blisters from too much dancing, and lots to be thankful for.

Pâtisserie

My newest blog obsession? Artist Inslee's blog, where she posts her fashion forward watercolours. Every picture she does is great. So in love. I must order a print for myself. It would look fantastic in a dressing room. Just as soon as I get myself a dressing room!

Also, if you want a personalized illustration, the artist accepts commissioned projects. I wonder is she does dogs and vespas? Or dogs on vespas?  She sells her prints and note cards in her online shop.

Love!

Picnic

Summer weekend are flying by. If you're not lucky enough to get out of the city, then I hope you enjoy your weekend by making a little picnic and taking it to the nearest green space. Make a date out of it!
I can't give you a link to the above pictures. It was from a site called That Was Just A Dream. However when I went to my google reader yesterday I found that site had posted 50 posts of porn. How inappropriate! So as to NOT link you to porn you will just have to accept my apologies. If you know who to give credit to, let me know and I will list it!

Tea Party

I am so so so in love with this beautiful all while tea party! I think life should have more fancy tea parties, no? How very sweet would this be for a shower of some sort? (Bridal? Baby? PhD finishing... do people have Dr Showers?) Well they should. Oh dear bestie, I am getting some ideas. Better finish that thesis quick!

Happy weekend everyone. I am headed up to cottage country for a weekend of relaxation and reading. Or fun and parties and mojitos. Or some combination of the two. I hope you all rejuvenate and enjoy your summer weekend!

J Crew Shoe of the Month Club

So it's about two months until my birthday. And I'm just SAYING that if someone loved me a lot. A LOT. And if anyone knew me really well... and if anyone had more money than they knew what to do with they would probably get me a membership to J Crew's Shoe of the Month Club. Are you hearing me? A NEW PAIR OF SHOES IN THE MAIL EVERY MONTH?? Yes PLEASE! (So much shouting, sorry. Too excited.) Ok, so I'm not really expecting this, because it's $1800 for a year. Which is a crap load of money. But mommy, when you win the lottery, you know what to do!

The Canadian dollar is above par. So technically it would cost LESS than $1800. More like $1725.
Anyone? Anyone? Buller?
