Congrats to a Bestie!

So my first lady bestie is now engaged! Like ring on finger. Like WHOA. And I am just SO excited I can't even tell you! This is one cute couple. Don't you hate it when you don't really like your besties partners? Not a problem. This man is sweet, can cook, handy around the house, and smart! (Doctor, what!) And my bestie? She's just a sweet ball of love and prettiness and loyalty and dedication, and SMART. Great couple? Yes. I only hope they settle down near me so that I can visit them for dinner parties. (Obviously I will visit them wherever they go, as I have already proven with trips to Dublin Ireland, and Hamilton Ontario. And despite the fact that Dublin is much further than Hamilton, it may have been easier to get me there!) It's just that I will go more often. And that's a win win situation for... my tummy.

Make Time

Good morning ladies and gents. If all goes according to plan I will have woken up this morning in Ottawa! Visiting the lady friends. Bestie from undergrad. Brunches, champagne, eating beavertails (that's right, about 50 grams of fat and sugar... but OH so yum) and generally gossiping into the night. My ladies may live hours apart, but every now and then we come together. Because nothing matters more than the people you love! (Not even the shoes you love, although it pains me to say it.)

A Toast

Hi all, I spent New Year's Eve with TWO of my besties, while the boy worked the night away saving people's lives. It was lovely and low key, with a fair amount of champagne and cheese. What could be better? Didn't get toooo crazy, which is a good thing since I got up at 7am to start baking for my New Year's Day brunch. What better way to welcome in the new year than with coffee, tea, pitchers and pitchers of mimosas, food (specifially bacon) and a lot of really good, lovely, interesting friends?
A toast to life, to friends, and to the next year.

Plant Our Dreams

Spent the weekend feteing a bestie's new home. (My friends own houses!! Whoa!) Hours and hours on the bus, but so much sunshine (both figuratively and in reality) once I arrived. Here is to hours of talk, to wine, to dreaming, to wondering, and to thinking. And to shopping. Of course.
I hope all of our lives are continued to be entwined. Occasionally separating, but always returning.

Buttons

A bestie introduced me to these... and I think they are great! And at a whopping $1 US each, they are certainly afforadable. (Get more than one!)

Berries (at a cottage)

I'm headed up to a cottage today. Am planning on spending the weekend eating, drinking, swimming, and possible sitting by the fire if the nights get cold. I feel badly about leaving the boy behind, but he has to work all weekend and I'll bring him to another bestie's cottage in two weeks, so hopefully that will make up for my abandoning him in the city while I relax by a lake.

Do Not Forget Old Friends

Do not forget old friends
you knew long before I met you
the times I know nothing about
being someone
who lives by himself
and only visits you on a raid

I believe

I believe in making mischief & the triumph of magic over the brute. I believe in short skirts & lip gloss & bringing the radical self-love revolution. I believe life doesn’t have to be serious, that you create your own reality & that beauty is all around us.

What To Wear?: Christmas Party Edition Final Decision

I have decided what to wear to THE PARTY OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON. I own at least... oh, 6 little black dresses, each one perfect in it's own way. But my most recent, and my favourite is a little Ted Baker number that I brought back from Dublin. The little black dress is always appropriate. Depending on how many buttons I do up in the front this single items of clothing could be worn (and has been worn at) a wedding, a bachelorette, a birthday and at work. Hell, it would work at a funeral, cocktail party, dinner party, or meeting (and impressing) parents. What other single item can do that except maybe a sick pair of heels. Ha. Thought not. This cost a pretty penny, but I do not regret it in the least. Thank goodness my bestie Pony was there to talk me into it. Now let's see how it holds up tonight! (And let's see how I hold up in 4.5 inch heels!)

Steve Madden: Heels (bought at DSW in NYC)

The Secret/ Thanksgiving

This is the secret to my cheery disposition.

When I thought about my actual birthday I knew I wanted the chance to share it in a more intimate way with the people I love.

Resasons I'm always happy:
#1 - There were 21 people I wanted to invite right away. It could have been a lot more easily, but as it was I didn't get to talk to everyone as much as I would have like. That's a lot of great people in my life.
#2 - EVERYONE came, except those who were out of province/country/continent. On a work night.

When there are so many people in your life that you love, and who love you back... well then, you're a lucky gal.

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

On the Road Again

Feeling the need for a trip. Am a little in love with besties who are encouraging me to do so. New Haven or New York next month, Montreal this month.
Thank goodness.
